Behind every product is a little story... And the story behind our Wildcats Range is a bit of an exciting one at that! Up until now all of our designs at MontiiCo have been produced in house, but it has been a goal for us in 2020 to collaborate with local artists.
I first spied Kasey Rainbow prints on some of my favourite clothing brands such as Little Party Dress and Jericho Road Clothing and I knew Kasey would be the perfect match for Montii! Her bright, fun and unique style was the perfect fit for Montii and I instantly knew we HAD to work with her.
(And before I go on, yes Rainbow is her real last name! And yes, when I read on her about me page she was open to having margaritas, I was even more excited.)
When Kasey said YES! I was thrilled! There may have been a little jumping up and down in the office! (Ok and maybe a little bit of squealing).
Working with Kasey was a breeze! We sent her our concept idea. Without hesitation, she worked her magic and nailed our idea straight away! For anyone who knows me, they’ll know getting ideas out of my own head into someone else's, can be tricky (sorry Kowen! haha!)
Before our eyes came together, our very special Wildcats Range! Which we knew you guys would absolutely LOVE!
Being local to us here, we invited Kasey along to our photoshoot day in Brisbane! Kasey’s daughter Darcey absolutely stole the show. At age four, Darcey is even following in her Mums footsteps, with her very own brand - Drawn by Darcy!
We also invited some of our favourite Instagram supporters (total influencers!) along for our shoot! We absolutely LOVE these ladies, and the support they give our brand is amazing!
Kellie from @my_shopping_dreams is a long time supporter of small business, lover of all things bright and a breast cancer warrior. I have connected with Kellie through Instagram and I was so stoked to meet her in real life (how good are the IG connections we make!!).
Along with our very own Ness and her twin sister Peta @traineemama! Seriously, how FUN would it be to have an identical twin - besties for life! #FunFact - Kirsty, Peta and I met in an online Mums group nearly SEVEN years ago and this was the first time we actually met Peta in person!!
AND the wonderful Katy @katypotaty . Katy is hilarious, loves a good craft beer and is a HUGE small biz supporter. Katy was full of confidence and gave us some much-needed posing coaching on the day! An absolute ball of positivity this lady!
If you aren’t following these ladies - seriously do yourself a favour and go and give them a follow and say hey!
Lunch and drinks [may] have been consumed after our shoot - hey we deserve it right?!

What colour will you choose!
He’s the newest member of the team! The calm amongst the chaos, Craig joined our warehouse team earlier this year after while his job as a restaurant manager was put on hold (thanks COVID) And because we are SO RAD to work with (right?) we convinced him to stay and to join the team in the office to manage our wonderful international distributors along with all of the fun manufacturing logistics.
We’ve introduced him to Insta’ boomerangs and now surprise Craig we’re featuring you on our blog!!
Let’s get to know Craig a little more…
I joined the team at Montii back in May this year. I started in the warehouse, picking and packing before moving into the office as Administration / Office Manager in August.
I met my wife in London, we were both working and travelling. Being from NZ it wasn’t hard to convince her to come and live with me in Australia! This was now 12 years ago and we’ve just skipped past our 8th wedding anniversary.
We have 3 beautiful children. Alexis is about to turn 7 (OMG), Hugo will be 5 in January and Calvin will be 2 in November.
(Side note, by “beautiful”, when we asked Craig how his weekend was the other week, he replied “bearable!” so we will take the beautiful with a touch of sarcasm haha!)
Short and strong - Small double shot flat white.
I don't do a lot of online shopping, I tend to leave that for my wife.
(Don’t worry guys, we will soon show him our way!)
Apart from Tom Cruise, Mark Wahlberg, Denzel Washington (in his younger years), not really…
I would have to say the dog. I was given my 1st dog for my 10th Birthday. Since then I can’t really remember a time when I didn’t have one by my side. I love their nature, intelligence and just the general way they lighten up everyone's day.
When I was younger, I would smash a banana and sugar sandwich. I’m a pretty plain eater these days. I mean I only had Guzman Gomez for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago…
(See! I told you we would show him our ways! Guzman is a firm fav’ around the office)
When I was about 12 or 13, I was skateboarding with a mate to see some girls. We went down this steep hill (he sat down, I stood up). There was a lot of speed and a lot of death wobbles. Needless to say, I ended up in the hospital missing a fair bit of skin from my face and nearly losing sight in one eye. Don’t miss skating at all!
Apparently (or so my wife tells me) I’m a pretty good hoarder - especially cardboard boxes. Everyone loves a well-made box, right?
No, not really.
I think anything from beer to bourbon would be good! Or daddy drink as my son likes to call it!
So that’s it, guys! I’m sure we’ll be seeing many more boomerangs, stories and blog features from Craig.
If you have a question you’d love the team to answer - hit us up! Shoot us a DM on Instagram, we’d love to hear *all* the things you would love to know.
How did Steph manage to be the last one to answer our hard-hitting blog questions? She’s the boss! That’s how!
All jokes aside, we know many of you really want to know more (because deep down we are all sticky beaks!) So let’s ask all the questions we know you *really* want to know!
I guess you could say I’m the boss? I started Montii in 2017 and prior to having a team (still pinching myself about that!) I did all.of.the.things! From designing the products right through to emptying the office bins. What I LOVE most is being creative! Basically, my brain doesn’t switch off (ever!) - so these days, I have a whole bunch of ideas and now have an awesome team who helps me bring them to life.
It’s me, my hubby Lee and our two boys! Hux who has just turned 7, and Sulli who is nearly 5 (Does that mean he isn’t my baby anymore?)
At the moment it’s an English breakfast tea with coconut milk. But 99% of the time I am all about the GREEN juice.
[#FunFact - Steph doesn’t drink coffee! Yes, crazy right!!]
It would have to be Active Truth!
I genuinely love their activewear products. (Hello tights that don’t roll down!) Their marketing is genius. They are a local (to us) Brisbane based brand - AND just genuinely nice people.
I don’t knowwww! I feel like I’m so tall and celebrities aren’t tall.. I’ve been told I look like @katy_potaty (less the height) does Instagram famous count?!
Ps. - I’m 180cm tall for those wondering!
What about a squirrel? Always busy and building projects?!
Not sure if it's really weird but I love a good condiment. As in - at least one sauce on everything, if not more than one.
Fave combos include bbq sauce and horseradish on a steak, mustard and mayo on a salad sandwich, and burger sauce AND tomato sauce on chips. (oh and did I mention that apple sauce goes on everything!)
Would you believe that I have actually fallen victim to the SAME random injury that Kirsty did? Sat on my foot in my office chair, stood up, had pins and needles - and rolled my ankle. Unfortunately, I did it in a crowded office though - not working from home. *SHAME*
I have a really weird typing style where only one hand does proper touch typing and on the other dodgy left hand only 1 finger types. But somehow it works - and I can type/ message / chat faster than most people!
I would also say I am a good internet shopper lol. Parcels arrive at my place way too often. I rarely go to the actual shops - as I prefer grabbing everything online (hello introvert).
Yes! Very superstitious. I’m quite an anxious person by nature (I have suffered from pretty debilitating anxiety in the past) and I definitely have a few quirks and superstitions.
If I’m worried about something bad happening - I won’t say it out loud (just in case that makes it happen), also works in reverse - if I want something to happen I will talk about it often, with lots of people! I’m a big believer in the universe sending us signs too - if something is really hard, and just keeps being blocked at every stage - it’s probably not the path I am meant to be on!
I’m a reformed chocoholic because I avoid caffeine (see anxiety notes above) - so can I say white chocolate? Or caramilk? Is that even chocolate? Lol.
So that’s it, guys! Do you feel you know Steph just a little more now? Do you have any questions you’d love to ask the team? Head on over to Instagram and shoot us a DM to let us know!
Until next time..
Yeah ok, so we aren’t professional photoshooters! (Far from it!) But after a few shoots under our belts, we’ve picked up a few tips and tricks along the way. So we thought we’d be kind enough to share how we ran out last (pretty successful) new product photoshoot!
First up, we hired an amazing location! We knew Bilinga Beach Abobe here on the Gold Coast would be perfect! The house provided lots of variety for different backdrops, including inside and out, pool shots, kitchen even a skate ramp! #OnBrand
It is also really bright and open, which is perfect for natural lighting.
Calling all Montii fans!! Next, we did a shout out on our socials for some locals to join us for the shoot! We were overwhelmed with the response, it was SO amazing to meet with our loyal customers and also a great chance to include some diversity in our photos. A personal goal here for us this year!
We asked our models to wear neutral casual clothing (fitting in with our brand) Bright, busy patterns can take the eye away from the product - we want the products to SHINE!
We broke the day into three separate shoots so we could have three different groups during the day! With two photographers on hand - our in house amazing Kowen as well as Mel Dixon this meant our groups could rotate between inside and outside.
By far the best tip was our Photo Run Sheet! Which included the list of products that we needed to shoot as well as the different photos we wanted to make sure we got.
Snacks, all the snacks! Seriously though, we preordered three separate platters which meant everyone was well fed throughout the day. We used Gold Coast Grazing Boxes here on the Gold Coast and their Platters were amazing! Jam-packed with lots of delicious goodies.
We were lucky enough to have all hands on deck from our team! Which meant we could have our photographer + an assistant with each group. This meant our amazing photographers could do-their-thang while the assistant stayed on top of the run sheet and swapping products in and out!
While we LOVE the peeps, the main focus is on the product! So having an assistant on hand meant, logos can be turned to the front and the products are made to be looking FINE!
We had a thank you box for each of our amazing models on the day! Because honestly, SO grateful! This meant they could take home their very own slice of Montii goodness on the day. (And hey, if they happened to take a snap and post to their socials - that’s a bonus too right!)
After the fun, the editing begins! We use Adobe Lightroom to edit, we try and keep editing at a minimum to keep the products true to colour (which is super important for product photography). Using it is just bumping up the exposure, adjusting the contrast and highlights a smidge - very minor adjustments like that!
We then export the images in both high-resolution, to be used in banners and advertising as well as low resolution for website and socials.
We also emailed each client gallery to our amazing models from the day! They were welcome to download the photos and use as they please, amazing most shared on their own socials too! #SpreadTheLove
That just about sums up how we ran our last successful (well, we thought as much!) photoshoot. Hope a few of these tips and tricks might help you too!
If you’d like to see some of the shots from the day, check out our Instagram! You’ll see our grid jam-packed with so many of the images in our latest Mellow Range.
