Money Saving Lunch Box Hacks

When it comes to making school lunches, we all know how easy it is to choose convenience, but the cost can add up in the long run! With the cost of living starting to bite, it's time we start to get a little more creative in the kitchen!

We've put together some money saving lunch box hacks that don't require a mammoth effort but will save you some money and time, and are simpler than you think!

Send Left Overs

Leftovers are your frugal friend! When planning your dinners for the week, aim to cook food that can be taken in lunch boxes the next day. Keep warm food toasty, or cold food chilled with one of our vacuum insulated Food Jars! Check out our Mega Food Jars, that you can fill with warm leftovers, noodles, nuggets and more. These Food Jars will keep contents warm until lunch time!

Buy in Bulk

We've found that buying in bulk is a great money saver! Buying lunch box staples in bulk like chips, crackers and dried fruit (or anything non-perishable) is a huge hack when trying to save money. This also means less trips to the shops - bonus!

Home-baked Goodies

The best part about baking food in advance is the amount of time you save during the week to prep lunches! Sausage rolls, zucchini slice, pizza scrolls all freeze well - seperate them into individually portioned serves that you can reheat (or not!). We love our air fryer for simple, fast lunchbox recipes. Find some really great freezer friendly recipes here.

Sandwiches

Sandwiches are one of our favourite lunches to pack and they don't cost much to make! Bread is inexpensive and when you think about the amount of fillings you can put on a sandwich, you can usually whip one up from whatever's in your pantry or fridge! If the kids are feeling bored of sandwiches in the lunch box every day, try investng in sandwich cutters. These will become your new best friend - turn regular bread into fun shapes, making lunch more enjoyable for the kids!

Did you know you can freeze sandwiches for up to 3 months for even more savings? Place your pre-made sandwiches in the fridge the night before to thaw.

Invest in a Bento Box

Buying single use bags for lunch can add up SO much in the long run! We might be biased but one of our favourite money saving lunch box hacks is using our MontiiCo bento boxes. They're SO convenient, having all your food in the one box is a game changer -no loose lids means you don't have to repeatedly buy lost parts or replacement boxes. They're also a more sustainable option, rather than continuously stocking up on single use plastic ziploc bags.

I hope you found some useful money saving lunch box hacks and would love to know any hacks you have? Let us know in the comments!
